Kazakhstan and China have agreed to elevate their cooperation in the field of civil aviation to a new level.
During a working visit to China, Chairperson of the Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan Saltanat Tompiyeva met with Shen Bo, President of the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC).
During the meeting, the head of COMAC presented the corporation’s current activities and key development priorities, as well as its efforts to promote Chinese-made civil aircraft in international markets. According to Shen Bo, COMAC aircraft are already in operation in Laos, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Certification and preparations for the introduction of these aircraft are also underway in Brunei, Cambodia, Mongolia, and the Republic of the Congo.
As part of the visit, aviation authorities of Kazakhstan and China also held talks in Beijing on expanding bilateral cooperation in civil aviation. Following the negotiations, the two sides agreed to increase the number of scheduled passenger flights operated by airlines of both countries from 124 to 152 per week. In addition, the list of Chinese cities with air connections to Kazakhstan was expanded to 11, including Chongqing.
The parties also discussed the possibility of launching direct flights between Astana and Shanghai, including services operated by Chinese airlines. Another key topic was the establishment of a third international air corridor between Kazakhstan and China.
The meeting also covered the allocation of airport slots in China for Kazakh airlines, the use of Chinese airspace, and the conclusion of an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in civil aviation search and rescue operations.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation in civil aviation, expanding air connectivity, and enhancing transport links between Kazakhstan and China.
