Kazakhstan’s civil aviation sector is entering a new stage of development. The country’s airports are preparing to implement advanced digital systems and innovative biometric identification technologies, enhancing operational efficiency and improving the passenger experience.
A working meeting was held in Astana between the leadership of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan and representatives of SITA, a global leader in aviation IT solutions. During the meeting, the parties reviewed the results of SITA’s audit covering 14 state-owned airports across Kazakhstan. The assessment found that the current level of deployment of core passenger processing and baggage handling systems averages approximately 38%, with many operational processes still performed manually. This highlights significant opportunities for the digital transformation of airport infrastructure.
The planned modernization includes the automation of passenger check-in, baggage handling, and baggage tracking processes. The introduction of biometric identification technologies will help reduce processing times for pre-departure procedures, improve passenger flow management, and further strengthen aviation security.
The parties also discussed establishing a centralized airport digital operations center in Astana to enable real-time monitoring and coordination of key airport processes. In addition, the new airports currently under construction in Zaysan, Kendirli, and Katonkaragay are expected to be equipped with modern digital services aligned with international standards from the outset.
The implementation of these initiatives will mark an important milestone in the digital transformation of Kazakhstan’s aviation sector, enhancing airport efficiency, strengthening aviation security, and providing passengers with a safer, more seamless, and more comfortable travel experience.
