Astana will host one of the major international events in the field of aviation security on October 20–22. With Kazakhstan’s support, the ICAO Aviation Security Week 2026 will take place in the capital.
The event will be held in Kazakhstan for the first time, bringing together heads of aviation authorities, representatives of regulatory bodies, international organizations, industry professionals and leading experts.
This year’s Aviation Security Week will be held under the theme “Safe Skies in a Complex World: Enhancing Aviation Security for All.” Discussions will focus not only on traditional aviation security threats, but also on cybersecurity, the development of artificial intelligence, the growing use of unmanned aircraft systems and risks associated with geopolitical instability.
Participants will discuss the protection of critical aviation infrastructure, responses to cyber incidents, measures to address threats related to drones and ways to improve risk assessment systems. Particular attention will also be given to strengthening information-sharing mechanisms in conflict situations.
With a 95.7% compliance rate with international aviation security standards, Kazakhstan ranks among the world’s top 20 countries in this area. The result also underlines the country’s leading position in aviation security across Central Asia.
According to the organizers, the event in Astana will provide an important platform for discussing the future development of the global aviation security system. It will also serve as a key stage in the international aviation community’s preparations for the Third High-Level Conference on Aviation Security (HLCAS/3), scheduled for 2027.
The event is expected to bring together ICAO Council President Toshiyuki Onuma, ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar, as well as senior representatives of foreign governments and international organizations.
