The Civil Aviation Committee of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan held a meeting to discuss ways to improve airport accessibility for passengers with special needs.
The meeting brought together representatives of the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan, airports and specialists in creating an accessible environment.
The participants reviewed all key stages of a passenger’s journey through an airport, from arriving at the area adjacent to the terminal to completing the necessary procedures and accessing services.
The discussion covered designated parking spaces, accessible routes from parking areas to terminals, ramps, entrances, stairs and lifting platforms. Particular attention was paid to ensuring barrier-free movement inside passenger terminals. The participants also discussed the accessibility of information and navigation systems for passengers with visual and hearing impairments.
The proposed solutions included tactile maps and signs, Braille, visual information systems and induction loop systems for people with hearing impairments.
The meeting also addressed the operation of passenger assistance services, the accessibility of information and help desks, staff preparedness to assist passengers with special needs, as well as appropriate conditions in mother-and-child rooms.
Following the meeting, airports were recommended to conduct an additional assessment of existing infrastructure and service procedures, taking into account the needs of different passenger groups. They were also encouraged to consider the application of modern international practices in the field of accessibility.
The Civil Aviation Committee and the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan will continue working with airports to improve the quality of services for passengers with special needs and enhance the accessibility of civil aviation facilities.
